Double top ten for Tom Lebbon at Donington

Rising star Tom Lebbon maintained his solid form in the 2022 GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC with a brace of top ten finishes from the third round of the campaign at Donington Park.

The We Finance Any Car-backed racer headed for the East Midlands circuit buoyed by a breakthrough victory in the previous meeting at Silverstone, which marked the first time he had made it into the top step of the podium since graduating to single-seaters.

The talented teenager showed solid pace through pre-event testing on the full Donington Park GP layout and qualified ninth on the grid for the opening race with a time little over half a second away from pole.

His second best time, used to determine his starting position for race two, would be eighth best – setting Tom up for another strong weekend on track.

Tom would survive a chaotic opening lap when race one kicked off to rocket up into fifth spot, and he held the place throughout the twelve lap encounter to add more points to his championship tally.

Race two would see Tom retain his place at the start, and he would run in eighth place throughout, showing his place by lapping four-tenths of a second quicker than he had done in race one.

The reverse grid final race saw Tom lining up in 13th place and he looked good for a third top ten finish of the weekend when he moved his way up into ninth spot by the end of the third lap.

However, coming through Coppice for the fourth time, Tom put a wheel on the grass and suffered a wild spin that dropped him back down the order to 20th spot.

Soon making up ground once again, Tom would rise to 15th place by the finish before two penalties elsewhere promoted him back into 13th – meaning he would finish where he started.

Tom now sits sixth in the standings, less than 20 points away from the top three, heading into round four at his home circuit of Snetterton in late June.
