Double top five for Tom Lebbon at Snetterton

Rising star Tom Lebbon enjoyed a solid weekend at his home circuit with a pair of top five finishes from the latest rounds of the GB3 Championship presented by the BRDC at Snetterton.

The We Finance Any Car-backed driver headed into his home event hoping to make up ground in the title race after a tricky weekend at Donington Park had seen him slip to sixth in the championship standings.

The teenager – who grabbed his maiden single-seater win earlier this season at Silverstone – showed solid pace during pre-event testing to end Friday with the fifth best time, little over three tenths of a second off the fastest time.

In what would prove to be an action-packed qualifying session on Saturday morning, Lebbon set the sixth best time to earn a place on the third row of the grid for the opening race of the weekend later the same day.

Getting ahead of Matthew Rees into fifth on the opening lap, Lebbon held his position throughout the twelve lap race despite the best efforts of Elite Motorsport team-mate John Bennett to find a way through in the closing stages.

Race two would see Tom lining up on the second row of the grid but he was shuffled back to sixth when boxed in through the opening two corners and held station in the early laps before Callum Voisin spun out of fifth to allow Tom to gain a place.

Although unable to keep pace the four drivers ahead, Tom kept Alex Connor at bay with ease to take the flag in fifth for the second time in the weekend.

From 17th on the reverse grid for race three, Tom would be shuffled back to 20th after an early safety car period by quicker runners starting behind and would run the same position right through to the finish as part of a long train of cars all dicing for position.

With a break until round five of the season at Spa at the end of July, Tom sits sixth in the championship standings but is just 20 points away from the top three.
